Power On Failure After Connecting to Power

When the POS system does not start after powering on:

  • Verify the power connection is secure.
  • Confirm the power adapter meets the motherboard's power requirements.
  • Reinsert the memory module.
  • Try replacing the memory module.
  • Clear the motherboard CMOS according to the manual.
  • If external expansion cards are connected, remove them and test again.

No VGA Display After Startup

If the POS screen does not display via VGA:

  • Check if the monitor is powered on.
  • Ensure the power supply is correctly connected to both the monitor and system unit.
  • Verify the monitor cable is firmly connected.
  • Confirm that brightness is not set too low; adjust using the monitor's brightness control.
  • If the monitor is in sleep mode, press any key to wake it up.

BIOS Settings Cannot Be Saved

If BIOS configurations reset after shutdown:

  • Check if the CMOS battery voltage is below 2.8V. Replace with a new battery if necessary.
  • Ensure correct BIOS setup. During startup, press DEL to enter BIOS and reconfigure time and date.

Cannot Find Boot Device

If the POS system shows "No Boot Device Found":

  • Verify power and data cables of the hard drive.
  • Check if the hard drive is physically damaged.
  • Confirm that an operating system is properly installed.

Blue Screen or System Crash During Startup

When the POS device enters the system but crashes or shows a blue screen:

  • Ensure memory modules and expansion cards are not loose.
  • Remove any newly installed hardware or drivers.
  • Replace the memory module if needed.
  • Try changing the hard drive mode in BIOS.

Slow System Boot or Operation

If the POS system runs unusually slow:

  • Use third-party software to check for hard drive bad sectors.
  • Ensure there is enough free disk space on the system partition.
  • Check if the CPU cooling fan is working correctly.

System Restarts Automatically

Unexpected automatic reboots may occur due to:

  • Faulty CPU cooling fan or overheating.
  • System errors or hardware instability.
  • Virus infections (run antivirus software to confirm).
  • Loose memory modules or expansion cards.
  • Insufficient power supply capacity – replace with a stronger PSU if needed.
  • Faulty memory module.

USB Device Not Detected

If USB devices cannot be recognized:

  • Confirm if the USB device requires separate power supply.
  • Check for poor USB port contact.
  • Ensure USB controllers are enabled in BIOS Setup.

LVDS Display Not Working

If the LVDS screen does not turn on:

  • Enter BIOS during startup and confirm LVDS settings and resolution.
  • Check LVDS PWR voltage level.
  • Verify backlight ON/OFF pins are connected and powered.
  • Confirm correct LVDS cable connection.
  • Ensure the display panel is functional.

LVDS Color Distortion or Flickering

When the LVDS screen shows color artifacts or star-like effects:

  • Adjust bit depth or resolution in BIOS (18-bit or 24-bit).
  • Check if the screen is damaged.
  • Test if the display works properly.
  • Replace or adjust the LVDS cable.
  • Try replacing the memory module.

EDP Display Issues (Color Distortion or No Output)

If the EDP display fails:

  • Confirm the motherboard is functioning properly.
  • Verify correct screen configuration.
  • For dual-EDP motherboards, connect to EDP1 interface.
  • Check if EDP_PWR terminal outputs proper voltage.

POS hardware troubleshooting is a key skill for distributors, wholesalers, and IT technicians. By following the above checkpoints, most common issues such as POS not powering on, display not working, USB device not detected, or BIOS errors can be quickly identified and resolved. For persistent or hardware-level problems, contacting your POS hardware supplier for professional repair and technical support is recommended.
